MEET OUR TEAM
Director
Rene Richard Waldrop is a graduate of Auburn University and Tulane Law School. She is currently an attorney with Muncie & Mattson, P.C. in Auburn, as well as an adjunct professor of Business Law at Auburn University. René is married to Mike Waldrop, who is the Director of Student Services in the College of Liberal Arts at Auburn University. In her spare time, she enjoys cooking, working in the yard with Mike and spending time with family and friends. René has a heart for women and children living in Auburn public housing and spends much of her free time praying, playing and serving the people in the community.
James Clemens earned Accounting and MBA degrees from Auburn University and went on to become the president and part owner of SouthWare Innovations, James and his wife, Linda, have been married for 15 years and have two daughters. They enjoy leading classes for engaged and married couples, and James is also involved in personal financial planning. Counseling and personal finance are the focus of his ministry efforts where he works to mentor young fathers and husbands along with helping children have the skills they need to break free from the cycle of poverty. He enjoys golf, weight lifting, and traveling.

Julie Commander is a graduate of Auburn University with degrees in Human Resources and Agency Counseling. She has lived in Auburn, Alabama for the past 26 years with her husband, Jon. They have three children and one son-in-law. Her passion is teaching and mentoring people to enjoy their relationship with the Trinity, and for others to know “Christ in me, the hope of glory.” She teaches spiritual formation, hosts Quiet Space Fridays in her home, and leads a small group for her church. Currently Julie is an Intern in Leadership Transformations’ Certificate Program in Spiritual Direction. She enjoys gardening, reading and quality family time.

Ellyn Grisham Hix earned her Bachelor and Master of Science degrees from Auburn University. Ellyn is the Director of User Services in the Office of Information Technology at Auburn University, where she has worked for 29 years. She is married to Bob Hix and has two children, John and Lea. Ellyn and Bob have spent most of their marriage giving back to children in the Auburn community through coaching sports and serving as youth counselors at their church. Ellyn has a passion for building self-esteem in children to provide them with the foundation to be successful and make a difference in this world.

Jared Commander is a senior in his last semester at Auburn. He will be graduating with a degree in Exercise Science. Jared will most likely be attending Auburn as a master’s student in biomechanics. After he finishes grad school he will be applying to Physical Therapy school. Jared enjoys any activities outdoors such as, fishing, hiking, and rock climbing. He got involved in the ministry at Ridgecrest his freshmen year of college and has loved the kids ever since.
Ben Brinkerhoff currently a junior in Agricultural Economics, hopes to pursue a degree in missiology after his time at Auburn University. He was born and raised in Auburn by Jim and Mary Brinkerhoff who served the Auburn Christian Student Center for over 30 years. Ben enjoys singing, listening to podcast, and most importantly spending time with his mom, sisters, and friends. The Ridgecrest community plays a significant role in Ben’s life as he has been walking and learning alongside them for the past 4 years.
Joanna Vogt is finishing her last semester at Auburn University as a Senior in Human Development and Family Studies. Her internship with Our House has been an extension of her involvement in the Ridgecrest community where she has been building relationships since her Freshman year of college. Joanna was born in Torrence, California, but has lived in 10 different cities in 9 states throughout her life. She is the oldest of 4 siblings and her family currently resides in New London, Connecticut. Joanna enjoys baking, reading, ultimate Frisbee and working with children and teens. After her graduation she will continue with Our House as full-time staff thru the summer.
